Unthank Road, Norwich
The design for the garden of this Edwardian house was formal in layout but naturalistic in its planting style. I selected materials that would be sympathetic to the period and style of the house, and created views with focal points from the french doors and terrace. A large terrace, laid in herring bone-patterned clay brick pavers, leads through a steel archway clad in fragrant climbers, onto a formal lawn that is surrounded by generous borders, filled with pollinator-friendly plants.
A babble fountain connects to a bespoke steel rill that runs down the centre of the lawn to fall into a circular wildlife pond. A path in self-binding gravel winds around the pond, through taller, semi-transparent borders of grasses and flowering perennials, leading to a pretty gazebo.
